07:09 pm - A swing and a miss!
Time for a little year-end review, I think. What was hot, and what sucked, in my LJ in 2007?

Oh dear, you didn't like the serious posts at all, did you? Anything vaguely political, global or (perhaps crucially) impersonal went by with nary a comment. You didn't like the geek stuff either, which I suppose is a little more understandable. On the other hand, joint first-place for comments received goes to a post about Portal and a video -- delivered sans remark -- from, er, Sesame Street. That says more about you than it does about me, I'm sure!

You also seemed to like it more on the rare occasions when I talked about myself than when I didn't, those posts getting more comments. [info]imomus has commented on this phenomenon, but to me it seems counterintuitive -- who would want to know about the minutiae of my life? (By the way, I'm having pizza for dinner tonight.) There are far more interesting things.

I have endeavoured to deliver thought-provoking content, to put up discussion points, but it didn't really happen. Why is that? Is it because my writing style is boring? Do pretty pictures help? Or is it simply a combined case of tl;dr and an overestimation of how much thought people want to put into the internet. The internet, clearly, is not for thinking about: youtube comments illustrate that fact nicely.

But Sesame Street as the pinnacle of interest? Shame on you. Shame!

Hey, how come LJ's menu bar doesn't have 'View Friends Page' under the 'Friends' menu any more? I know it did exactly the same thing as clicking at the top of the friends menu as well as clicking on the Friends Page link above the menu and was therefore totally redundant, but what people are used to is an important part of interface design. As I've said many times before, I only barely passed Human Computer Interaction, but I would totally fail LJ for this random, pointless and confusing move. FAIL!

ETA:You can only get to your friends page by clicking on the actual word 'Friends', not just near it, but the way it gets highlighted makes it look like you should be able to get there just by clicking on the bounding box. From a design perspective, this totally sucks. It's not just fail, it's SPECTACULAR FAIL. It wouldn't even need much more wrong to become EPIC FAIL.

04:46 am - Sidebar summary
Okay, I wrote a page-summary dealie for my LJ-sidebar, but it's broken again. Seemingly now it only wants to navigate to entries that actually have a subject line. But your entries should have subject lines, you lazy sods. Well, at least I know where I've gone wrong. I'm not sure I can be bothered to fix it at this moment though.

01:20 pm - Shift
I mentioned recently that "the tone, focus and purpose of this journal has shifted". I still have to get round to deleting all the old, self-absorbed, bawk-bawk-whine emo-bitch entries, but to be honest I'll do that when I feel like it. It's not a priority.

What I would like to do is to make this journal more meaningful. I'd like to give it a title that reflects the current tone and intent.

Currently the title is "Here Comes A Special Boy" which, while cute, is just a reference to Achewood because I can have a reference to Achewood. There's little point to it. The subtitle, "Kitchen dancing and other sobering thoughts" is even less meaningful.

This is where you come in. Comment with suggestions for a new title and subtitle, plzkthx.
